The Building

The new Ottawa Rotary Home will offer services to both children and adults in separate wings decorated and appointed appropriately for their needs and their ages. The new building will include single and double bedrooms, a large living space, kitchen, a Bubblebathatorium housing therapeutic tub and shower rooms, and spacious common areas with lots of room to roam and play. There will also be a Snoezelen Room, a specially designed area fi lled with quiet stimulation, that uses combinations of colour, light, sound, shape and texture to create the ultimate atmosphere of relaxation. All meals will be prepared in the Home’s kitchen and will be shared family style with friends amid good-natured conversation. The children and adults will be able to participate in social activities and games in the living room and computer areas. These areas will also be available as places to work quietly on homework, as creative learning spaces or as somewhere to just curl up and watch a favourite television program. All bedrooms will be outfi tted with musical equipment to sooth and entertain. With the luxury of a fi ve-acre site, the children and adults will have access to the outdoors. Gardens of beautiful fl ower beds, accessible from inside and outside, will surround the Home. There will be a playground for children of all ability levels with direct access to the gardens and a third outdoor area consisting of a patio where they can visit with friends or simply sit and enjoy a warm breeze.
