Supporting the respite care programs of The Ottawa Rotary Home with Purpose, Passion, and Commitment.
The Ottawa Rotary Home Foundation's sole purpose is to develop fundraising initiatives to support the Ottawa Rotary Home. The Foundation allocates funds each year to assist with the provision of essential supplies, and the replacement of worn equipment urgently needed to maintain the Home's high level of care.
Building on the Dream
After 11 years of planning, the dream of a new, larger Ottawa Rotary Home is moving ever closer to reality. Ottawa Rotarians have again taken the lead and committed to building a new Ottawa Rotary Home with one 13-bed wing for children and a second 8-bed wing providing timeshare accommodation and respite programs for adults. Respite may be a few hours to ninety overnight stays a year, but each stay will make a huge difference in the lives of parents and their families.
The building, designed with Barry J. Hobin & Associates Architects Inc., (pictured above) will be 18,000 square feet with the most up-to-date facilities, furnishings and equipment for those with physical disabilities and/or complex medical needs. The building plan for the site has been approved by the City of Ottawa, the remaining municipal approvals are proceeding and the major engineering issues are being addressed. A five-acre gift of land on Bank Street in Ottawa South has been generously donated by Suzanne and Keith Halpenny.
Sharing the Dream
As the nature of our society changes, the need for respite grows and touches each of our lives. If we as caring individuals, families, businesses and governments are to continue assisting families to support their loved ones at home, we must also support the belief that respite is essential to the health and wellbeing of these families and our community.
